Tails for Whales
Book Project

Earlier this year, Planet was invited to print a book for IFAW called “Tails for Whales”, which is to be presented to the Prime Minister Mr Rudd this year.

The aim of the book was to print photographs of 551 people with their hands in the shape of a whale’s tail to show their support to stop whale hunting by the Japanese in our southern waters, as 551 whales were killed on the last hunt.

Planet Press consider the “Tails for Whales” project worthy of our support. So, we decided to donate our products and services, and in addition, invited four of our suppliers to join with us, which they did.

The book was produced, entirely without cost to IFAW due to Planet’s commitment to the environment and networking of businesses together for the greater good.

We respectfully acknowledge the support of our suppliers on this project:

Succession: Business as Usual

Planet Press Announce Shareholder Change

Following years of planning, mentoring and implementation, the succession plan for management change at Planet Press has been realised. On 15 July 2009, Syd Gould and family retired from the business, selling their shares to long term partner Colin Marsh, and Managing Director of 9 years, Russell Marsh who are now equal partners. This transition of ownership is seamless with no changes in key personnel. We thank the Gould family for their support over our many years together and look to the future with renewed vigour and a vision for continued success!

CASE STUDY:

Save The Bilby Fund
Save The Bilby Fund
“Face The Challenge” Crossword Competition
Targeted to all Australian Primary and Secondary Schools

The Planet Press Group together with Save The Bilby Fund continue our ground breaking campaign for the third consecutive year. The project aims to enhance public awareness, educate and inspire participation and fundraising to help save Australia's endangered species (including the bilby). For two months during July and August each year our Australian school children are asked to participate in "Face The Challenge" an educational nationwide competition with heaps of prizes!

Frank Manthey co-Founder of Save The Bilby Fund will travel to 3 winning schools, anywhere in Australia, and take a live bilby for the children to meet. Frank is a skilled, passionate presenter, and with the help of his little live Bilby, will inspire the children and teachers with his knowledge and explain their responsibilities to help save Australia's endangered species. The children he meets will be some of the future decision makers of our country, the benefits of this experience will be invaluable.

The competition also provides a useful tool for teachers, and provides a task requiring students to research on the internet, as well as problem solving. Past feedback on the competition has been fabulous.

To fulfill the project Planet Press have produced a
Printed Media and Online Solution:

• Campaign Design & Project Management
• Copywriting & Original Illustrations
• Website Design and Interaction
• Print, Finishing and Mailing Fulfilment
• Direct Marketing & Email News
• EnviroPrint Assistance

In the lead up to the campaign various DL and A4 flyers were produced and donated from our EnviroPrint program. These were distributed at community events such as: The Sydney Royal Easter Show, Brisbane Ekka, EcoFest etc

The crossword was researched and developed, incorporating original illustrations and design. It can be downloaded from the competition website, which was developed by Planet Press and housed on our EnviroPrint website.

Plus, a national mailout was sent to almost 10,000 schools Australia-wide, inviting participation, and directing the schools to register online. Email registrations are received at EnviroPrint on behalf of the fund, and participating schools are listed online in the Hall of Fame.

Registrations include information about fundraising activities which the schools may wish to participate in, giving great information to Save The Bilby Fund in the leadup to National Bilby Day on Sunday 13th September this year. This is a fabulous opportunity for the children that you know to get involved, please take a look online now, and forward this email home or to your friends.
