Planet Press EnviroPrint awarded Highly Commended for Waste Management Award in the Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Program 2008

The popularly contested Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Sustainable Cities Program recognises the top environmental initiatives of metropolitan councils, schools, individuals, businesses and community groups from Sydney, Newcastle, the Blue Mountains, Central Coast and Wollongong. Each of the winning environmental projects have enhanced the standard of living and quality of life for urban communities in NSW.

EnviroPrint congratulates all of the entrants for their various initiatives and efforts. In particular, we thank our Planet Press employees who work every day on our EnviroPrint projects. By actively working to minimise waste and maximise resource use - your efforts have been recognised again. The potential waste paper that is utilised, rather than being destined for recycling, saves trees, oil, electricity, water and landfill and has a direct impact on climate change. Great work!

Planet Press EnviroPrint Sponsors Save The Bilby Fund

The Planet Press Group together with Save The Bilby Fund continue with our ground breaking campaign to enhance public awareness and inspire participation to Help Save Our Endangered Species! For two months during July and August 2008 our Australian school children are asked to participate in "Face The Challenge" an educational nationwide competition with heaps of prizes!

Frank Manthey co-Founder of Save The Bilby Fund will travel to 3 winning schools, anywhere in Australia, and take a live bilby for the children to meet. Frank is a skilled presenter, and with the help of his little live Bilby, will inspire the children and teachers with his knowledge and hopefully explain their responsibilities to help save Australia's endangered species.

Planet Press EnviroPrint awarded Highly Commended

Bankstown Council recognised the City's high achievers on Wednesday 12 December 2007 at the Bankstown City Industry and Export Awards. Businesses throughout the greater Bankstown area entered projects and practices for various award categories, with the aim to showcase the oustanding entrepreneurial achievements of the local business community. This year a new category was introduced - ea2cc (early action to climate change). EnviroPrint entered our projects into this category and were recognised for our efforts with a Highly Commended. It was a priviledge to receive this award, and also rewarding to present a brief overview of our waste minimisation conservation initiative to the 150 attendees at the awards dinner.

Planet Press Feature on SCOPE -
Channel Ten's Afternoon Science Show

Aired on television on Monday 23rd July 2007 at 4.00pm this episode of Scope featured Famous Inventors. Planet Press was lucky to be approached by Network Ten and Peter Marsh was volunteered to act as the presenter.

Explaining how the printing press works, the segment also highlighted the importance of printing as an invention. Filmed on site at Planet Press, various departments were displayed to demonstrate how offset printing works today, from design, to pre-press and the printing machine.

This was an unusual opportunity for our business, and we thank all of our staff who assisted in the filming, some of whom make their Australian television debut.

Keep Australia Beautiful Sustainable Cities Awards Dinner 2007

Congratulations to all of the entrants for this year's Sustainable Cities Awards. Each year this program grows and Keep Australia Beautiful should be commended for their commitment to encouraging the community to improve their sustainability practices.

Sustainable Cities recognises outstanding environmental initiatives implemented by local government authorities, schools and community groups whilst raising public awareness of a range of environmental issues affecting metropolitan NSW. The overall Sustainable Cities award was presented this year to Randwick Council. A number of sponsored awards covering issues such as urban wildlife, waste and sustainable communities were also announced. We must make special mention of Wyong Creek Public School who proved that even very small schools can produce outstanding results - congratulations on winning the schools category for 2007!

The Planet Group congratulate Peter McLean on the announcement of his new role as Chief Executive for Keep Australia Beautiful NSW.

Peter Marsh and Joanne Johnstone joined numerous other organisations on the evening by displaying promotional materials to demonstrate our environmental initiatives and overall business.

Planet Press EnviroPrint Proudly Support Save The Bilby Fund

Hopefully you had the opportunity to visit Frank Manthey and his dedicated team of friends from Save The Bilby Fund at 2007's Sydney Royal Easter Show. Their wonderful exhibit was a fabulous way for thousands of Sydney siders and tourists to view and learn about Australia's endangered Bilbies. For such a small and rare creature, they can really grab attention and win hearts. Ongoing support for the Fund is necessary for them to continue their important work - to save not only the Bilby but also raise awareness of other Australian threatened species.

Planet Press Fighting Climate Change with Greening Australia

On Thursday 15 March 2007, Planet Press was represented by 9 people who took part in a hands on planting project in Western Sydney. The old grazing property has been selected as part of Greening Australia's River Recovery project. Greening Australia works in partnership with landholders, the community, government and business to tackle environmental degradation in a practical, apolitical, scientific way.

This was a fabulous experience which showcased the exceptionally professional organisational skills of Greening Australia and also helped to educate us in the direct benefits to the local area in the future, and our community as a whole. Every tree planted absorbs greenhouse gases, and has a direct impact on the climate with regard to temperature control. 20 trees can absorb the yearly emissions of a family car, with 50 trees absorbing the entire annual green house gas emission for an entire family. Working with the other corporate volunteers and Greening Australia's teams we numbered about 120 people, and in just one morning we planted over 6,000 trees!

Click HERE to see what we achieved.

EnviroPrint Sponsors Featherdale's Devils

The Tasmanian Devil gained worldwide affection in the 1950s after appearing with Bugs Bunny in Warner Bros cartoons. "Taz" was described in the cartoon as a wild, dangerous, ravenous beast capable of eating anything.

In reality devils are mostly shy. They have powerful jaws, are very strong, and usually prefer to eat carrion. At eating time they will fight with other devils for food. No, they might not be the prettiest, or the most pleasant, but they are now at great risk from a terrible and fatal facial tumor disease, and as a unique Tasmanian marsupial we love them!

The bitter memory of the extinction of the thylacine (Tasmanian Tiger) is still fresh in the minds of all Australians. Fortunately, Featherdale Wildlife Park and a few other mainland Australia sanctuaries have embarked on a national program to help ensure the survival of Devils. EnviroPrint is helping to support a family of four at Featherdale, please visit them and make them feel loved. (Feeding time is 4pm daily)

Enviro-Print Helps Save The Bilby at Dreamworld

Planet Press has worked with The Save The Bilby Fund to spread the world of thanks to all Australians for their ongoing assistance to help save our bilbies. The fund is also sponsored by leading Australian companies including Dreamworld, Darrell Lea and Featherdale Wildlife Park who are helping to distribute the flyers.

Our EnviroPrint flyers and posters work to raise community awareness of this endangered species and to assist in fund raising for the Save The Bilby Fund. Dreamworld will start construction on a new bilby exhibit early next year which will greatly boost their fund raising efforts.

Don't forget to help the bilbies out this coming Easter too!

Planet Press Native Garden

As part of our recent building rennovation we have planted some hardy tube stock local species* of Australian native plants (courtesy of Bankstown Council). Our enlarged replacement garden will beautify our work environment for employees and visitors, save water, as well as encourage local bird life and reptiles to visit too.

* When conducting bush regeneration programs, it is always important to plant trees that are native to your local area. Information about local species can be obtained from your local National Parks & Wildlife Service, Dept of Conservation & Natural Resources and local nurseries.
