Fighting Climate Change with Greening Australia
On Thursday 15 March 2007, Planet Press
was represented by 9 people who took part in a hands on planting
project in Western Sydney. The old grazing property has been
selected as part of Greening Australia's River Recovery project.
Greening Australia works in partnership with landholders, the
community, government and business to tackle environmental degradation
in a practical, apolitical, scientific way.
This was a fabulous experience which showcased
the exceptionally professional organisational skills of Greening
Australia and also helped to educate us in the direct benefits
to the local area in the future, and our community as a whole.
Every tree planted absorbs greenhouse gases, and has a direct
impact on the climate with regard to temperature control. 20
trees can absorb the yearly emissions of a family car, with 50
trees absorbing the entire annual green house gas emission for
an entire family. Working with the other corporate volunteers
and Greening Australia's teams we numbered about 120 people,
and in just one morning we planted over 6,000 trees!
