FIRE FIGHTING EQUIPMENT

Planet Press employees
and their visitors please take note:

Please remember in the case of fire your own personal safety is of greatest importance.

What to do when a fire starts
Don't panic. Keep calm and think.

When the warning is raised, those not needed should leave the building at once. Those in attendance to fight the fire should stay between a doorway and the fire.
Use the right type of fire extinguisher. Have others back you up with more fire extinguishers.
If the fire is too large for fire extinguishers get out of the building and close all doors.

There are Three Main Classes of Fire

A CLASS FIRES - ORDINARY COMBUSTIBLES

Class A fires are in ordinary free-burning materials such as paper, clothing, packing materials and timber.
Normally these fires are best extinguished using Water.
(Use the water fire extinguisher or,
water extinguishers which are coloured plain red.

B CLASS FIRES - FLAMMABLE LIQUIDS

Class B fires are in liquids such as petrol, spirits, paint, lacquers, thinners, varnish, fats, waxes, oils, greases and many liquid chemicals.
To extinguish use a carbon dioxide (CO2) or Dry Chemical extinguisher.
DO NOT USE WATER

(E) CLASS FIRES - ELECTRICAL FIRES

(E) signifies an extinguisher is suitable for use on fires involving live electrical equipment.
NEVER USE WATER OR FOAM EXTINGUISHERS WHERE ELECTRICITY IS INVOLVED.
USE ONLY EXTINGUISHERS THAT ARE NON-CONDUCTORS OF ELECTRICITY.
Dry Chemical and CO2 extinguishers are both suitable for this type of fire.
